A wardrobe log was one of my first ideas when I started writing this newsletter, and it has taken me almost three years to actualize. Documenting everything I owned felt daunting, and I avoided it. However, I am back and committed to documenting most of what I own, new purchases, and how I wear them. You can look forward to my button-down shirts log, shoes, bags, basic tanks, and an updated jewelry collection.
Here is my denim log:
Early this year, I wrote about my inability to find the right fit for jeans and trousers due to my specific proportions (short torso, long legs). Most of the jeans I will show here are pairs I owned when I wrote that essay, so I haven’t reached clarity in this department. However, I am no longer spiraling like I was in January.
Jeans are a problematic category for most people, and after years of losing and finding the perfect pair, I can say that you need more than one perfect pair. For many years, I had the “main character jeans” and 3-4 supporting pairs because I always felt uncomfortable having more than five pairs of jeans because it felt wasteful. Since I began writing this newsletter and utilizing more of my closet, I have noticed and made a list of gaps in my wardrobe, and my scanty jeans collection is at the top of that list.
While the denim retail market is overcrowded, I am grateful for the variety and versatility of what’s available. Lately, I wear jeans at least once a week and sometimes more, and I have slowly acquired more silhouettes and washes. Outfits that once felt incomplete look more polished because I finally have the right pant leg. Although I am yet to reach clarity in this department, I want to share what I currently have going for me, how I wear what I have, and why I chose these silhouettes.
Note: I have photographed all my jeans in the same t-shirt (sold-out Kye Intimates shirt) because it highlights the differences in the cuts and fit. I have styled each pair and included different shoes that work best with each pair.
