I cringe when I look at past outfits because most of them were unlike me, but I didn’t know where to begin fixing them. While photographing these new looks, I asked myself these questions over and over:
Is this you?
Would you wear this, like this?
Do you feel comfortable? Or are you trying too hard?
Each time I answered these questions honestly, I removed or added something to the outfits, and when that didn’t work, I ditched them and started all over again. Once I found my stride, I didn’t have to manipulate my clothes to seem more interesting. I enjoyed wearing them as is.
Here are the outfits I didn’t scrap:
My babysitter walked in with my son before I gave up on this dress; her reaction made me keep it on. I had forgotten I bought this for colder months because it felt too covered up for summer. I initially wore it with strappy sandals and almost regretted buying it until I remembered I had boots. My boots are green, which complements this oddly colored dress. I chose this lightweight Max Mara coat because it made sense, and I added a belt because it looked better.
As a Nigerian, I believe in gold supremacy; however, as a Danica Stamenic stan, I can see silver’s POV. You will notice I am wearing a lot of silver jewelry throughout because I have seen the light and understand why 925 deserves rights. Additionally, I have been leaning into mixing my metals which has been a lot of fun, especially after adding some new silver pieces to my wardrobe.
