In Kansas City, we had a lighting ceremony at the outdoor shopping center in midtown on Thanksgiving, which marked the beginning of the holidays for me. Everyone who lived in and outside the metro area came to the city to watch this happen live, and Starbucks was the meeting and ending destination of this gathering. I went to my first one in 2012 after watching it on TV for five years with my friend Alden. The crowd was filled with people dressed for the holidays in sequins, dresses over tights, Tory Burch boots, and peacoats. The men were unremarkable.
