Hello! I have yet to hear from anyone about creating a space (on the Geneva app) to share items we are searching for, as well as selling/trading garments for paying subscribers. Are we interested in that?
Here’s what I’ve done and what I am thinking about doing:
I made a room called “in search of” for all to share vintage and new items we’re looking for. While rebuilding my wardrobe, I sent pictures of items I was looking for to friends I know are always shopping, and it helped A LOT, and I wondered if it would be beneficial to make this space for everyone. Here are the rules I am considering:
If you own and are willing to sell an item someone else is searching for, you can post photos and negotiate pricing in the chat. However, I require that EVERYONE buying selects the “paying for goods or services” option regardless of whichever payment platform you choose. It allows the buyer or seller to resolve issues with the item’s condition or shipping concerns.
I know that looking for vintage is a lot of work, and I wonder if those helping others find something would expect a small finder’s fee. I was thinking $30. How does this sound?
If you find your item, please delete your comment to avoid clutter!
I want to host a monthly virtual sale. I considered creating a spreadsheet and having everyone interested in selling items. I will select 10-15 people monthly to post their items to sell. We will repeat this every month. The same purchasing rules for the “in search of” room will apply here. I might need volunteers to facilitate monthly sales when I cannot. I am still determining what this will entail, but I will let you know once I know!
(I am experiencing significant life changes, so I am still in the “thinking” phase for this idea because I do not know how much capacity I have to commit to a monthly sale. Your feedback and enthusiasm will affect how I decide.)
To keep these rooms strictly for paying subscribers, I will make a monthly “in search of” room and share the link for paying subs to join! (If you don’t understand what this means, it’ll make sense when you join the app!)
Why Geneva? I love the Substack app for its convenience, but it is limited because there isn’t a function for readers to post pictures. Because it is still a new function for Substack, I experience crashes and lags while using it. Geneva is perfect for what I plan on doing, and you will see that once you join!
We’re launching the Geneva “in search of” room next week!!! Thank you so much for responding ❤️
Once I have sufficient feedback, I will post the link for the new Geneva "home" I created because I deleted the last one after struggling to edit old rooms I made last year.
I'm not super familiar with Geneva (im in one for a writing group) but LOVE this idea and want in! everything sounds really fair and fun
i’m not familiar with geneva but happy to acquaint myself! this sounds great subrina! thank you for all the work you do to continue to make this space new and exciting :)
not much more to say other than: YES. to all of the above.
I agree with what’s been said - don’t know Geneva but love the idea and will meet you there :)
Would love to have this space! Depop aint cutting it. Geneva is really great and I find it easy to use if set-up properly (as you outlined). I hope they add payments in app soon!
Also love all of the ideas! Never used Geneva but very happy to start.
i love this idea! especially the wishlist part, we all have things we’ve been searching for for ages!
yes i love this idea! i have vintage to sell that i've been sitting on, pretty much all sizing errors on my end
I'm not familiar with the app, but am definitely interested in familiarizing myself after reading your ideas! Looking forward to seeing how it comes together.
I love this idea! I'm in a few Geneva book clubs and love the app
Love this idea! For the monthly (or whichever cadence) sale, are you thinking there would be a minimum or maximum requirement on number of items to sell? I think either could be helpful to make sure it's a robust and curated sale?
